Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Part 45: Collect-a-thon Continues
So, after helping out Lithariel get some medicine, we are still continuing our massive collect-a-thon of getting all the artifacts and the captains that we need in order to challenge the next WarChief. I feel like this is the point in the game where it somewhat repetitive which is a shame. Now, it’s totally possible I could’ve grabbed the artifacts a while ago during some mission that took place around the artifact but, since I didn’t, I now have to run around the map just collecting them. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy my fair share of collect-a-thons but in most, the things that you gather is what allows you to progress the story. The best example would be Banjo Kazooie in which you gather puzzle pieces that would then unlock the next location. The problem here is that there doesn’t seem be any sort of reward to do it expect for the satisfaction of completing the game with 100%. Granted, that is a drive for some players so you can argue both ways. I did enjoy doing the side challenges and the lore was also pretty cool to hear (as of writing this, I’ve completed the game in case you’re wondering) but, looking back, that’s all I did for like five videos straight with like maybe one story-based mission every two videos to make sure it wasn’t all I was doing. I guess what I’m getting at is that I don’t mind doing all this collecting if there was some huge payoff (which is why I was really into the Ithildin when they introduced that because I wanted to see what that picture would/if it would unlock a new area or something) but, for the most part, it doesn’t quite feel like there is any sort of payoff.
