I love Mierce models, but I HATE reviewing them, if only because they send me into a deeper and deeper rabbit hole reading up on a lot of the games' ties to history and fantasy. Happens every time. Took me well over an hour to write this damned description due to reading up on Kernow, the origins of the Ysians and the city of Ys, Brittany and its various occupants and rulers, Celtic mythology, the Falcolm game series Ys, and a good other half dozen topics I probably partially glanced over.
But the figure- THE FIGURE! I wanted this guy as soon as I saw him. Originally mounted on an impressive manticore, they also offered a dismounted version, with the caveat that they were only sold as a bundle originally.
Now we can get the foot version separate, and I bought one as soon as possible! Ace sculpting by Rafael Dioli, who modeled a figure that matches the style and savagery that Stephane Simon got the line started with. Sadly I made a mistake in the video thinking Bob Plociennik sculpted this model. Whoops!
Even if you aren't keen on the actual Darklands rules, this guy would make a super impressive Chaos warrior of some sort. You could definitely see him leading an impressive horde of evil forces across the battlefield!
Some random notes- his legs didn't exactly line up with the notches on the base, and there seem to be some extra keyed spots on his cape. I'm guessing this is to facilitate using these parts on both mounted and foot versions perhaps? Not really sure. It doesn't pose a huge issue though.
This guy is big too. Almost as big, if not bigger than the classic Carrowek figure, Carrowek being one of my all time favorite models. Garth is a bit hunched over with all his trophies though, so I'll give him the size advantage in the end. Once completed, the model definitely has a lot of presence!
Now if Mierce can get those resculpted Annik of Carn Bran sculpts up for sale soon....
