Minecraft Minecart Stations Spinners and Latch Arrays
In this next episode of my Minecraft Minecart Station Tutorials, I cover Latch Arrays and Spinners.
Spinners use an item in an item frame, and a comparator to read the item's position to allow you to choose 1 of 8 choices.
Latch arrays can be built to allow you to choose one option from 2 to 15 possibilities, although they are generally used for at least 4 options.
Having that many choices allow you to build stations that many destinations. I show 3 different way of hooking a latch array up to rails to allow you to go to the destination you choose. The first method separates the latch array signals apart to every other block, so that they can directly activate rail switches. The causes the rail switches to be twice the width of the latch array. The second method folds the track back over itself, so that the rail is now only slightly wider than the latch array, even though the switches still take twice the size.
The final method of switching tracks is a concept I first saw of Fed X Gaming's channel. It uses pistons to push a double rail path, turning it into a turn off from the path. After you pass through, a double piston extender pushes the rail back. This allows the switching section to be about the same width as the latch array, with exit tracks at every block, without having the cart path any longer than it has to be. The only slight issue with this design is that it cannot be rotated freely, but it can be mirrored to get it to have the buttons and exit tracks facing the direction that you want.
For spinners, I show off a simple circuit that has exit tracks every other block, that is simple to build. I then show off how to connect a spinner to the double rail piston switch to give an easy to use 8 way station.
In the next episode, I show off how to combine the elements that I've shown off in the previous episodes to build stations with more than 15 tracks. Stations with 30 or even 64 tracks are easier to build than you think!
