Kerbal Space Program Eve Probe Part 2
I'm back finishing off the probe mission to Eve in Kerbal Space Program.
Last time we left off with the probe heading out to Eve's orbit, but needing to do a burn so that it would intercept Even on the next orbit.
We start off doing that burn, then time warping for a year until we encounter Eve. The probe is going to come in under Eve, and so we perform a correction burn so that we will be in a more equatorial orbit. We perform the burn and end up so that we will enter Eve's atmosphere and aero-brake to save fuel.
Before we enter Eve's atmosphere, we get eclipsed, and before we run out of power, we retract the solar panels just encase we enter the atmosphere before we get sunlight again. It turns out that we so get light before hitting the atmosphere, so we quickly open a panel and gather and transmit some science before hitting the atmosphere.
While traveling through the atmosphere, we gather some more science, and transmit it after we exit the atmosphere. We are slowed down, but are quite in an orbit, yet, so we perform another burn to get in an orbit.
As we head out to our apoapsis, we notice that we come close to Gilly's orbit, and we attempt to see if we can get an intercept. As Gilly is so small, and encounter is really hard, but after two burns, we get really close, and so attempt to go for it.
After the burns, we still don't have an encounter, but we wind up really close to Gilly, and slowing down a bit gets us an encouner which we turn into an orbit. We lower the periapsis, and get close to gather some science, which we broadcast back to Kerbin.
We end the episode in Gilly orbit, having gather nearly all the science that that probe can gather at Eve.
