**WATCH IN HIGHEST QUALITY 1440p!** In order to record high-quality 1440p, I had to play through the OBS capture window since I don't own any displays over 1080p. This was ridiculously challenging- especially the St.3 boss where I couldn't dodge the one-hit kill attacks & is the only place I died. The game is very responsive so the 4-5 frame lag from playing in OBS worked well-enough. Felt great finally nailing this! Looking to get into MiSTer FPGA? I first tried Apidya a couple years back, but it would always crash on stage 2-1 in the Amiga core back then. Sometime last year this was remedied and I finally was able to learn the entire game over the past few days. The core needs to be set to Amiga 500 settings to play it properly though! If you use all the modern bells and whistles you will have a near-impossible time clearing the 3rd stage, as all sprites in the top-half of the screen become invisible, including the player bee.

It's recommended to choose the "two button" option in the game's settings so you have easy control over powerups, and also stick with the default "joystick" option instead of choosing "pad" there. They are essentially the same, except you will not be able to pause the game ("p" on a keyboard) when it's set to "pad".

I feel like the RetroTink Slot mask worked really well here to preserve the bright arcade-like visuals while achieving a deeper scanline depth like the Commodore 1084! Unfortunately the C1084 mask we have on MiSTer currently isn't very good and seems far too prominent and enlarged at a normal sitting distance. Hopefully someone can improve upon this in the future. One downside to using the RetroTink Slot mask is that it may appear a bit uneven & over-sharpened when scaled down to 1080p in videos, especially noticeable in solid-colored areas. This is why I highly suggest watching in 1440p if possible!

Gotta mention the Chris Hülsbeck soundtrack here also! It's just excellent and gets you pumped for the fast paced action in Apidya. My personal favorite track plays on stage 3-3 and has a very late-80's synth vibe, but unfortunately only plays for a short section. (Timestamp: 21:18)

If more games on Amiga would've had a confluence of both style and substance like Apidya, I feel it would have caught on much better in the USA. The quality here is outstanding, w/ the weakest point being the "anime".

Thanks to the many folks who have worked on Minimig for nearly two decades now, resulting in the awesome Amiga core we have on MiSTer. Special shout-out to the Mega Boys for making Amiga so accessible to newcomers, with the excellent Amiga.Vision/MegaAGS pack. (https://amiga.vision/)
