Moraes votes to convict Bolsonaro of attempted coup
16đź’ˇ WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW:
⚖ ️ Justice | Justice Alexandre de Moraes, the reporting judge for the case, voted this Tuesday (September 9, 2025) to convict former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and the other seven defendants for the crimes reported by the Attorney General's Office (PGR), including an attempted coup d'état. The trial is taking place in the 1st Panel of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), which is analyzing the participation of the so-called nucleus 1 in a scheme to violently abolish the rule of law.
The vote to convict the eight defendants was divided into 13 axes, according to him, to detail how the organization sought to keep Bolsonaro in power even after his defeat at the polls.
The minister fully accepted the Attorney General's Office's (PGR) accusation that Bolsonaro led an armed criminal organization that, with the participation of members of the government, the Armed Forces, and intelligence agencies, structured a plan to attack democratic institutions.
