Baldur’s Gate 3 early access kicks off in August (maybe) and what better way to fill the wait than shiny gameplay and info straight from Larian Studios? This footage shows the same quest shown in the new Baldur’s Gate 3 gameplay reveal, but with some different outcomes. We interviewed Nick Pechenin about new Baldur’s Gate 3 gameplay features, and how his team turn 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons rules into game systems. If you saw our first Baldur’s Gate 3 gameplay explained video - https://youtu.be/rHzXgnvNCT4 - you’ll know about combat and stealth. This video looks at Baldur’s Gate 3 level cap, spells, Halfling stealth, reactions, death and much more.
Baldur’s Gate 3 spells attempt to translate the rules of magic into attacks that make sense in a video game - Nick says that even Colour Spray has some punch this time - and we also talk about how social magics, like the Friend spell, play a part. He also talks about how the team is thinking about Baldur’s Gate 3 levels - they haven’t set the cap, but want each level to be meaningful, and for lower levels not to get squished so easily in combat. Speaking of death, you’ll see scrolls of resurrection in this video, but there are more interesting things afoot. Throw in talk about inspiration points, long and short rests, and the hardest rule to turn into something on screen, and there’s loads to keep you busy here. As you’ll see in this BG3 gameplay, there’s an awful lot of moving parts in this game.
Thanks to Nick for taking the time to answer our big Baldur’s Gate 3 demo questions.
