Goro is the penultimate boss in the game. He is an unplayable character.

Goro on the Sega CD / Mega-CD version of MK1 is surprisingly even more 'lenient' (less prone to freezes) than the Genesis version. However there are still some things you can do that will lock the game, and the Block button remains unusable with him.

The 2D Mortal Kombat games are programmed in a way that the CPU and Human player flags are almost completely different... the CPU controls the characters in a way that a Human player can never do, this especially applies to the bosses. Once a human player selects an unplayable boss, the boss character is flagged as a 'normal' character which results in the game 'seeing' the boss as a normal character, which results in loads of flaws and freezes. You can never perform the moves the CPU can for a boss.
