Did your ever wonder why the Sony PlayStation controllers kind of look like Nintendo controllers, specifically how they so closely resemble the layout of the Super Nintendo and Super Famicom controllers? If you asked most people, they don't have an idea, but the reason is very cool. The reason why is that Sony MADE controllers for the Super Famicom, specifically for the Sony Play Station, designed to play Super Famicom cartridges and CD-ROMs on a new system, the Sony Play Station.

The story of the fallout between Nintendo and Sony has been what documented over the years. Sony signed in to create the CD system send would get all the revenue from the CD based games. Nintendo backed out of the deal, installe instead negotiating a deal with Phillips which brought the CD-i to market.

When Sony decided to pursue their own system, they created a controller based on what they knew from their testing, the Super Famicom controllers. however the eventual Sony controller had 4 shoulder buttons compared to 4. Sony also kept and tweaked the Play Station name to PlayStation which we all know and love today.

Did your know about the legacy of the PlayStation controller? let us know I'm the comments
