In this episode, we check out what we got in our January 2024 Video Games Monthly box, including Import Games, Gamecube Games, and even a FREE game! Let's take a look.

The team at video games monthly do an amazing job providing fun additions to your retro video game collection. They offer games for systems such as the original Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo, N64, Sega Genesis, Master System, Xbox, and more. I have currently subscribed to the $ 34.99-a-month plan which nets me three total games. For the month of January 2023, I definitely received some awesome titles.

What We Got:
Super Famicom
Snoopy Concert
Value: $21

Super Famicom
Super Tetris2 + Bombliss
Value: $15

Nintendo Gamecube
The Incredibles
Value: $10

Nintendo Gamecube
Namco Museum
Value: $8

Total Game Value: $54

This was a terrific box this month, even with the damage to Super Tetris 2. I have fixed that game, and you can see how I did that using a new 3D Printed back, which also made the cartridge region free, here:

While I could have designed my own back plate, I headed over to Thingiverse and found a new cartridge with the region-free back I was looking for. You can find that file at this link:

I printed the file at a .20 Layer Height in SainSmart PLA+ grey filament on my Creality K1. It took about an hour to print. When it was done, I cleaned off the supports that printed, which only took a few minutes. The one thing I wasn't expecting was that there weren't any holes for the screws, but I used a drill bit to start the mounting holes. Once I did, I aligned the 2 halves of the case, threaded the screws in by hand, and we were ready to test the fit. But not in a Super Famicom, in a US Super Nintendo!

It took no time to get things aligned and popped in. I was very happy with the way the cartridge lined up into my system, just as if it were a US and not Japanese cartridge! This is something I'll definitely keep in my back pocket if I need to perform this repair again in the future.

Video Games Monthly allows you to request games from systems such as the Intellivision, ColecoVision, Atari 2600, original Nintendo, Super Nintendo, even up to the most recent last Gen systems such as the Wii U, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. They have a list of games in which you can input what titles are already in your library, and you can also message them with special requests. For example, I don't want any RPGs, and others have messaged them to let them know they don't want any sports games. You can also customize what systems you want them to send you games for each month.

Have you ever subscribed to a video game monthly blind box? What have your experiences been if you have? And what do you think of this month's box? Which would be the first game you would play? Sure your thoughts in the comments.
