Mozart Violin Concerto No. 5 in A major, K. 219 III. Rondeau - Tempo di minuetto
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Violin Concerto No. 5 in A major, K. 219 III. Rondeau - Tempo di minuetto
Written in 1775, this beautiful concerto is nicknamed The Turkish for this exact movement's surprising switch of style into a "Turkish episode" in the middle of the movement. Great example of Mozart's versatile jokester genius, using unison chromatic crescendos, and col legno (percussive sound created from playing with the back of the bow) from the cellos and the basses, which are both elements atypical of "formal" music written at the time. The theme of the Rondeau is also humorously varied as the movement develops. This movement is a true gem of the violin repertoire from the classical period.
