Sound it Out is a creative adventure where I look at a piece of visual art and come up with a tune on the violin on the spot to describe it. Today I am sounding out a brightly-colored chicken painting by Mary Anne Nagy called Surprise.

Obviously the chicken is surprised at the non-egg, rectangular thingy that she just laid. As soon as I saw the painting, I thought of the section in Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals Hens and Roosters. So I would say today's musical description has some thematic influence from an existing "chicken repertoire."
Ok, someone needs to just let me know if I'm just being too ridiculous making such a serious analysis over a comedic matter like this. 🤣
