Murphy Models (Bachmann) MM0187 GM 181 Class Diesel Locomotive 187 IE Orange (OO Gauge) Review HD
Here is my second lightweight Irish locomotive that has recently joined my steady growing fleet of Irish locomotives. This one is a Bachmann GM 181 Class Diesel Locomotive that was commissioned by Murphy Models around 2008 I think judging by the older style box as the new models from Murphy have the Heljan-style boxes which give better protection of the models. I just love this livery as it suits the locomotive really well as the IE Orange & Black livery is one of the best colour schemes in my opinion. On the downside, the horns were a bit too brittle as I ended up fixing them on with Loctite superglue to hold them permanently in place. I have my Craven and MkII passenger train which is behind 187 that is the fleetnumber of the locomotive and I believe the real thing is no longer around. Meanwhile sticking to topic, the model has excellent detail overall and this model is a 21-pin DCC ready type and a sound speaker can be easily added into the model to enhance it more if required. Performance is good at all speeds as the running is very smooth. I am very impressed with the detail and performance but the brittle air horns is only stump that prevents this model from scoring a perfect 10. But I am fair, so the final score is a justified one.
Overall Rating: 9/10.
