Hornby R3039 | Class 67 Diesel Locomotive | 67018 | DB Schenker Keith Heller | OO Gauge | Review HD
Just as I promised. This is a review of my second Hornby Class 67 Diesel Locomotive model that is numbered as 67018 in the DB Schenker livery and named as "Keith Heller". Keith was the former chief executive of the former English, Welsh and Scottish Railway (EWS) until around 2009/2010 when he retired from the company after 40 years working in the industry. 67018 interestingly sports a Canadian "Maple Leaf" graphic on both sides of the locomotive in reflection of Keith Heller's nationality which makes him Canadian. To this date, 67018 still wears this livery with the Maple Leaf but sticking to topic which is the model. I have added all of the detail parts to the bufferbeam at the front end and also I have painted the buffers into the US Air Force grey which is the same colour I have used for 60011 and 60011 that I have shown in a past video. I have also applied the included metal nameplates which unfortunately resulted in getting a smidge of glue on the side just above the area on the nearside of the model. So I will patch this up a bit later with some matching paint and I have mentioned this as this was an error of my doing and nothing to do with the factory.
The model has NEM couplers at both ends and also comes with two types of NEM automatic tension lock couplers with the narrow and wide loop type. The latter is ideal for MkIII "push-pull" as the wider loops should give more stability on corners when the Class 67 is propelling the train in push-mode and my example when hauling the VSOE "Pullmans" ran very smooth at all speeds recorded in this video and I didn't see any signs of jerkiness either as this model maintained smoothness throughout the test drive. The train on the second line was my 60011 that is also in the DB Schenker livery as well that hauling seven Bachmann BP tanker wagons which this Hornby Class 60 model in this livery does add a nice contrast to my newest model locomotive on the block. The Hornby Class 67 has directional head and tail lights with a switch for day/night setting on the fuel tank similar to that of the Hornby Class 60. This is the DCC ready version of this model and it will only require an 8-pin DCC decoder or a sound decoder to use on DCC. The model is also sound ready too, as there is a chamber in the metal fuel tank to add a oblong-sized speaker for better sound. Nice model overall for appearance, performance and quality and these models can be bought for a good deal if you shop around.
Overall Rating: 10/10.
