My First PS5 Game: Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart #1
Total play time: about 16 hours.
I pre-ordered Forbidden West, and picked up Rift Apart pre-owned.
Wow, this game is a lot to process. I never played a Ratchet and Clank game before (which I'm sure shows by how I play this first section).
The mechanics are simple enough - I'm sure I'll get used to them. The visuals are gorgeous, but it's a lot for me to take in when I'm looking for the next thing I need to do or shoot at. Every scene aspect seems important since it is all rendered so well, so it's hard for me to make out where I need to go next. Shooting at pedestrians... not noticing the boss health bars or which weapons weren't working... failing to notice jump patterns to avoid getting shot... I hope Forbidden West is a bit more muted in its visual activity.
I mainly picked up this game because of its impressive visuals, but they ended up being a lot more than I thought when I'm the one playing. Hopefully I can get used to them. Just watching this video, I notice heavily how many details I miss just by playing (which in my mind is a problem with visual direction - at times, nothing draws your attention to targets within the mass of other things being rendered - at least, when you aren't familiar with how Ratchet and Clank games play).
Played on Performance RT (with Raytracing) (1080p, 60fps).
Hmm, since I don't want to put my PS5 into sleep mode, I have to leave it on to charge my controller. I guess I'll pick up that controller recharger bay tomorrow.
Update: I've learned a lot about the Ratchet and Clank series since I started this. With game titles like A Crack In Time, Up Your Arsenal, Going Commando, Size Matters, Full Frontal Assault, and Quest for Booty... and a character named Skidd McMarx... clearly the makers are heavy on the in-jokes.
The game continued to be simple until a few hours in when I get a nasty boss fight, and the availability and need for better and more upgraded weapons starts to intensify. Half way through the game, I'm liking it, and I know a lot more of what to expect and how I should search around.
30 minute video, 10Mbps upload speed, 1 hour to upload, as expected.
