Need for Speed 10 (Carbon) - Brooks Street in under 2:55 (2 Laps)
With Need for Speed Heat on the horizon I decided to do a quick revisit of the 21 previous NFS games leading up to the launch of Heat. Here you can see Need for Speed 10 (Carbon), which was released in 2006 for various platforms. In this game I recorded a fast race on Brooks Street with the Mitsubishi Lancer.
NFS Carbon is similar to Most Wanted but this time you are racing at night again. Drag is replaced by a Drift mode with unique physics and a new mode is Canyon. For the first time in the Underground generation there are more than 4 cars in the races, which is especially fun in online multiplayer.
Like all 21 main NFS games Need for Speed Carbon can be played on a modern PC with Windows 10 and there is also a widescreen mod for it. Unfortunately the game doesn't have a LAN mode, so one day multiplayer races might become impossible if the servers are turned off.
Carbon is another one of my favorite NFS games and I also played it competitively for a bit. The best car in the game is the Corvette, followed by the Audi Le Mans Quattro. However, many people play without those for historical reasons and then on many tracks the best car is the Lancer, which is a lot of fun to drive.
Brooks Street is one of the tracks that was played in the world championship of the game at WCG 2007 and the very best players could hit 1:25 lap times on it even without nitrous, as you can see in this video from the WCG final here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOCvWwFViW8
Unfortunately NFS Carbon would end up being the last great NFS game, with the quality of the games severely dropping afterwards and never getting to the same level again.
I will attempt to show you all 21 existing NFS games before the release of Heat, so expect to see a video almost every day from now until the release of Heat and on some days even two. :)
