Need for Speed 1 - Autumn Valley with Ferrari 512 TR (Single Race)
With Need for Speed Heat on the horizon I decided to do a quick revisit of the 21 previous NFS games leading up to the launch of Heat. Here you can see Need for Speed 1, which was released in various versions between 1994 and 1996. In this game I recorded a race on Autumn Valley Speedway against AI with the Ferrari 512 Testarossa.
Note that I am playing with keyboard in this game, since it doesn't have proper gamepad support, so my driving is a lot more sloppy than usual, since it is hard to be precise with keyboard here.
Need for Speed 1 had a total of 9 cars with the Mazda RX-7, Honda/Acura NSX and Toyota Supra in the tuner class, the Porsche 911 Carrera, Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 and Dodge Viper RT/10 in class B, the Ferrari 512 TR and Lamborghini Diablo VT in class A and a fictional unlockable bonus car.
In terms of tracks there were 9 sprint tracks with City 1-3, Coastal 1-3 and Alpine 1-3 and 6 circuit tracks with Rusty Springs, Autumn Valley, Burnt Sienna, Vertigo Ridge, Transtropolis and the hidden bonus track Lost Vegas.
The AI in NFS 1 is one of the strongest in the NFS series. When I tried to complete the tournament in this game some years ago I got destroyed by it, although it might be easier if you can get a gamepad to fully work.
Like all 21 main NFS games Need for Speed 1 can be played on a modern PC with Windows 10, although you need to use the DOS version and an emulator called Dosbox. Instructions for setting up the game can be found in tutorials on YouTube.
I will attempt to show you all 21 existing NFS games before the release of Heat, so expect to see a video almost every day from now until the release of Heat and on some days even two. :)
