With Need for Speed Heat on the horizon I decided to do a quick revisit of the 21 previous NFS games leading up to the launch of Heat. Here you can see Need for Speed 15 (Hot Pursuit 3), which was released in 2010 for various platforms. In this game I recorded the Hyper class Hot Pursuit event Calm Before The Storm with the Koenigsegg CCX R Edition.

NFS HP3 was the first NFS game with drift physics, which is something that we are now used to but at the time was something very unusual for the NFS veterans. In terms of content the game was split into racer and cop events and both sides had weapons like EMP and spike strips.

This game was also the first one with a horrible name, since officially it was just called Hot Pursuit, which makes no sense, since there were already a Hot Pursuit and a Hot Pursuit 2 in the past. To avoid confusion players therefore had to come up with their own unofficial names for the game, so I call it Hot Pursuit 3, while some other people use Hot Pursuit 2010.

From the 5 NFS games with drift physics that we have now this is probably the best one because while I don't like this style of physics they are at least somewhat working properly in this game and the roads in the game are also wide enough to accommodate them.

One thing that I really disliked about the game was the lack of a quick race mode though, which is another thing that we are sadly now seeing regularly in games but in the NFS series we saw it for the first time in this game. There were a lot of cool tracks in multiplayer mode but most of them could not be played at all in single player, which was also a big problem for league and tournament play, since it was impossible to practice for your matches alone without the help of a friend.

It is definitely a fun game for a casual playthrough though, so if you have never played this game I would definitely recommend it. From the NFS games after 2006 it is one of the better ones.

Like all 21 main NFS games Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 3 can be played on a modern PC with Windows 10.
