I live stream 8-bit Nintendo games on original hardware at least once a week, usually WedNESdays from 10–11 p.m. Eastern, and I sometimes play other games on Friday nights or whenever the mood strikes and I have time.

MINI-REVIEW: This game doesn't live up to the one I've dreamed about all these years. I remember reading about Day Dreamin' Davey in Nintendo Power (the Battletoads issue, which I read over
and over again)—and for some reason I was captivated by it. I was excited when I finally picked up the cart some years ago, thinking it must be one of those "lost classics," but I've only just tried it out and I've had a rude awakening—oh, it is so bad. Whether intentional or not, the visual style is crude and ugly, like a cartoon a kid might draw, and the gameplay has frustrating, glitchy controls and obtuse objectives, and is just generally not much fun. I expected better from HAL Laboratories, but this comes across as a boring mess. It's a playable one, barely, and the game has some inventive if not ambitious elements, but I just know there are better ways to spend my time. This is a classic example of a game that looks great on paper but was implemented poorly.
