NEW 2023 Peugeot 508 SW - Visual REVIEW features, interior, exterior
The 2023 Peugeot 508 Station Wagon offers an impressive blend of style and substance. This midsize station wagon from the well-renowned French automaker carries forward from the 2019 model with few changes, maintaining its distinctive aesthetic appeal and features, following a mid-cycle refresh in 2022.
The exterior of the 508 Station Wagon departs from the boxy design traditionally associated with station wagons. Instead, it opts for a sleek, coupe-like styling which is unique and attractive. The design features Peugeot's trademark vertical LED running lights, a built-in rear spoiler, and a smoothly sloping roofline. This car holds its own in terms of size, measuring up to midsize rivals such as the Volkswagen Passat Variant.
On the inside, the 508 Station Wagon is anything but ordinary. The cabin design adopts a modern, minimalist style, with the Peugeot's i-Cockpit system forming the centerpiece. This includes a compact steering wheel and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Premium materials like Nappa leather and open-pore wood trim elevate the aesthetic appeal of the interior, while a generous cargo capacity of up to 59 cubic feet, with the rear seats folded, add to its practicality.
The powertrain of the 508 Station Wagon is comprised of fuel-efficient, turbocharged 4-cylinder gas and diesel engines. The base model employs a 1.5-liter gas engine outputting 160 horsepower, while higher trims feature a more powerful 1.6-liter gas engine with 180 hp. Also available is a 2.0-liter diesel engine option delivering 160 hp. All versions come with an 8-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel-drive as standard.
When it comes to features and technology, the 508 Station Wagon is no slouch. Standard features include dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, LED headlights, and a 10-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Upgraded trims offer additional luxuries such as a premium Focal sound system, massaging front seats, and adaptive cruise control.
Safety has also been taken into account in the 508 Station Wagon. Standard features include lane departure warning and traffic sign recognition among other driver assistance systems. Available upgrades provide further safety options including blind spot monitoring, automated emergency braking, night vision, and semi-autonomous driving aids. As of now, the Station Wagon has yet to be tested by Euro NCAP.
In terms of pricing, the base model of the 2023 Peugeot 508 Station Wagon starts around $35,000, with well-equipped mid-level trims costing around $40,000. The high-spec GT trim comes in around $47,000. The 508 Station Wagon finds its competition in wagons like the Volkswagen Passat Variant, Skoda Superb Combi, and Subaru Outback. With its mix of unique style, comfort, practicality, and French flair, the 2023 Peugeot 508 Station Wagon presents itself as a noteworthy alternative to the SUVs and crossovers that dominate the market.
