All NEW 2024 Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series - New REVIEW exterior, interior
Toyota has unveiled a substantial upgrade to its LandCruiser 70 Series, slated for a Q4 2023 release in Australia. The newly refreshed model will introduce a four-cylinder turbodiesel engine coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission for the first time, enhancing the vehicle's performance and convenience features. This represents a significant departure from the previous models, which were traditionally equipped with a V8 turbodiesel engine and a five-speed manual transmission.
The updated LandCruiser 70 Series not only boasts an enhanced powertrain but also features several aesthetic and functional upgrades. The interior and exterior of the vehicle have been significantly revamped to present a modernized appearance, complemented by the inclusion of an improved multimedia system. Notably, the increased safety technology and comfort features serve to augment the driving experience for users, indicating Toyota's commitment to customer satisfaction.
The new 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine in the LandCruiser delivers maximum power of 150 kW at 3400 rpm and peak torque of 500 Nm between 1600 and 2800 rpm. This represents an impressive increase of 70 Nm in torque compared to the existing V8 diesel engine. Converted to horsepower, the engine's output stands at approximately 201 HP, showcasing its considerable performance capabilities.
Toyota Australia President of Sales, Marketing, and Franchise Operations, Sean Hanley, has expressed the brand's excitement about the extensive upgrades to the LandCruiser 70 Series. He notes that the inclusion of the new powertrain and significant increases in safety and convenience technology have made the LC70 an ideal vehicle for a wide range of uses, from work on the land to recreational off-road adventures.
The new four-cylinder engine is expected to be offered in multiple grades across various body styles, including Single Cab Workmate, GX, and GXL, and Double Cab Workmate and GXL for Troop Carrier and Wagon variants. Meanwhile, the established 4.5-litre V8 turbodiesel, delivering a maximum power of 151 kW or approximately 202 HP, will continue to be offered with a five-speed manual gearbox.
In terms of design, the significantly upgraded LandCruiser 70 Series carries forward its rugged aesthetic with a refreshed front end, paying homage to the iconic LandCruiser 40 Series. The interior has undergone a similar upgrade, with a redesigned instrument cluster and centre console for improved ergonomics and practicality. The vehicle also features a 4.2-inch multi-information display (MID) and a 6.7-inch touchscreen compatible with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on all grades.
Further demonstrating its commitment to driver safety, Toyota has incorporated advanced safety technology features into the new LandCruiser 70 Series. These include lane departure alert, road sign assist, and automatic high beam as part of the Toyota Safety Sense suite of advanced driver assistance features. Further specifications for the Australian market are anticipated to be released closer to the launch of the upgraded Toyota LandCruiser 70 Series.
