New Features Improve Our Quests! Passthrough API, Meta Orion, Samsung Headset & More!
1,293Time for another batch of exciting AR & VR news! Meta’s rolling out a much nicer power menu in v72+, now showing as an overlay instead of kicking you into a black void. Passthrough API access also looks just around the corner, finally giving developers more camera control.
Meta researchers showed off a crazy cool system that generates photoreal avatars from just four selfies, and their new “Orion” silicon carbide material might be the secret sauce for better optics in future headsets. Horizon Worlds is also getting a photoreal avatar beta, and Meta’s new “Communities” feature looks like a solid addition for social users.
Sadly, Inseye’s Lumi eye-tracking add-on has been paused for now. Meanwhile, Samsung’s upcoming headset is shaping up to be a premium device, rumoured to launch in Q3 with gorgeous 4K micro-OLED displays — but probably a pretty high price tag too.
