NEW FF7 Remake Story Additions and Expansions Revealed By SquareEnix
30Welcome back, its nixne with a new video on the Final Fantasy VII Remake. Square Enix has published an article about how the remake adds and expands to the original story. I want to go over the new information given to us and hopefully get an even greater understanding of just what we can expect from the soon to be released Final Fantasy 7 Remake
As a fair warning this video will contain spoilers so if you want to go in 100% blind I would suggest clicking off the video. If you like me already know the story get ready to dive in to all the details.
During the aftermath of the Reactor 1 explosion Cloud wanders the street with many buildings, packed streets with NPCs, majority to be unique, and players being able to interact with them.

This figure is the one and only Sephiroth.
This scene is completely new and not present in the original Final Fantasy VII. I find this to be an exciting addition as it brings Sephiroth to the fore front and allowing us the players to get into the shoes of Cloud Strife and his battles with the mental and emotional distress Sephiroth left him with. While it is not made abundently clear just what happened it raises questions for players very early on in the game.
Moving forward it is stated that while persuing this "figure" Cloud loses him and stumbles into Aerith. "But she has problems of her own - she’s surrounded by black wisps of…
something, which cause her to stumble and fall. Cloud’s presence seems
to drive them away, and they strike up a conversation - much as it did
in the original game. Rest assured that, yes, Cloud can still has an option whether or not
to buy a flower - and here’s a fun fact: a grateful Aerith will now give
it to him for free, rather than charge him a gil!
Their meeting is then interrupted by a figure chasing off Aerith and Shinra forces attacking cloud, naturally Cloud battling his way through to jump onto a moving train.
If it isn't obvious, this game as stated in the article is redefining moments from the original and turning them up a notch. I can confidently say this is something that I wanted but wasn't sure just how they would execute.
Naoki Hamaguchi also added a couple statements
“I’ve considered the following phrase important: respect for the
original,” he said. "FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE takes on the challenge of
creating something… that matches the current generation, while treating
the captivating elements of the original game with respect.”
“For those who’ve played it: new but familiar.”
Just from what I personally have played I can confirm these statements stand to be true. It is reassuring and exciting to see just how much love and respect has been poured into this project. Is Final Fantasy 7 Remake part 1 just midgar? Yes, but that is not a bad thing. If you really love the Final Fantasy VII universe this should be a dream come true as we are going to get a highly detailed look at the original with some well needed expansions to modernize this classic that has captivated millions and will continue on doing so for generations to come.
