PS5 Release and Advantages for FF7 Remake Part 2
Final Fantasy 7 Remake has come and gone and something that really stuck out to me is the amount of loading that occurred during my time with it. You may first think well wait, I don’t recall there being much loading but thats where Im here to tell you there was but it was covered by slow movements and hold triangle to open or push. This is a technique used by devs to avoid traditional loading screens and to mask loading that may take you out of the experience.
Now, I am not faulting FF7 Remake as this is more on the hardware side of things. The hard drives can only load so fast and this is what makes the remake part 2 so exciting. WIth next gen consoles having SSD’s inside and specifically the PS5 having an SSD 2x faster than your average SSD this allows Final Fantasy as well as other games to do things that before were impossible.
So we can say good bye to all those ridiculous slow downs going through tight spaces or cut scenes bringing us to a snails pace. This is also going to be very fitting considering that the Remake part 2 will likely be going into an at least semi open world direction.
This is all under the assumption that the FF7 Remake Part 2 will be on the PS5, which I believe will be the case. SO I know, they had stated that everything already under development will be releasing on the PS4 but I am doubtful of that. FF7 Remake part 2 is at the minimum 2 years away and at that point PS5 will have been on the market for roughly 2 years. Are they really going to drop such a huge title on the PS4 even if the PS5 is cross gen? I doubt it, the reason being the advantages to developing a game on the PS5 go far beyond what the PS4 can handle and not just from a graphic fidelity stand point. I believe Square will want to go for the best experience possible for Final Fantasy 7 Remake part 2 and if that means a platform with less units in the wild it would be worth the risk if a risk at all.
An argument for this that could be made is the FF12 release on PS2 when PS3 was almost out on the market. as a reminder Final Fantasy 12 released on PS2 on March 16, 2006 and The PS3 release on November 11 2006. I believe this example to not be applicable to this case because it dropped before the PS3 was out and not what could be theoretically 2 years into a new console life cycle. We also know square to change plans which they are entitled to do so as they did with FF13’s console exclusivity and FF Versus 13 changing to FFXV and going from PS3 to PS4 and XBOX One. Now, I understand FFXV is a complicated story but even so their words are never written in stone as we have seen in recent months.
Ultimately the Remake part 2 could go far beyond what part 1 did and being on the PS5 opens many doors that otherwise would be closed on a dated platform like the PS4. So what do you think, will they drop this game on the PS5? and would you want them to? Let me know in the comments.
