Hidden Gem Alert! Shinonome Redefines Roguelike Escape Games
0Shinonome is an expertly crafted roguelike escape game currently in development. You play as Yono, a novice Onyo student, whose primary goal is to escape a haunted house by confronting and exorcising ayakashi—monsters and vengeful spirits.
Unlike typical action-oriented games, Shinonome relies on observation and strategy. Players must analyze clues left by the ayakashi, such as trails and sounds, to formulate plans for survival. This unique gameplay combines courage and intellect to overcome challenges, making it a fresh take on the survival horror genre.
The game seamlessly blends the feel of a mystery dungeon with intense resource management and positional awareness, creating a high-stakes, tense experience. Even though Shinonome features roguelike elements, I’ve spent nearly 3 hours immersed in the pre-made scenarios of the Harae mode. These scenarios are expertly crafted and become increasingly challenging the deeper you go. Honestly, I could play just this mode and still consider it one of my favorite games of the year.
The foundation of the game is solid, and ongoing improvements continue to enhance the experience. Too many early access games fizzle out before release, but I’m confident Shinonome will thrive. Hope you enjoy my video!
