I love Open World 3D Platformers, they are one of my absolute favourite genres but I do feel that a lot of it comes from nostalgia at this point. I don't think the Banjo games have been beaten when it comes to their open worlds and yet I don't think they're perfect nor do I think they even hold up in 2020 when scrutinised.

Odyssey is a big favourite for many, I love it but I do think it's a tiresome grind to 100% with a lot of the fun falling away. However Mario games will ALWAYS sell and Nintendo are not set in their way with Mario so he may return to a linear nature in the future. I do hope that New Super Lucky's Tale is not the best we can expect from other studios and that someone comes out with a new, exciting take on the open world 3D platformer some time soon.
