Some gameplay footage from the DOS port of Nicky Boom published by Microïds in 1992, mainly to demonstrate the higher speed of play and, by extension, degree of difficulty when compared to the Amiga original (I don't know about the ST port).

This is the speed the DOS version of the game is actually played at. It doesn't get faster than this with a better system, and a slower system will just have trouble with the scrolling, so it doesn't seem to be a timing issue with modern CPUs. Notice in particular how quickly the health drops. It takes less than two seconds of enemy contact to go from full health to death.

I'm not playing particularly well here, since it's just for a demonstration—when actually playing the PC version, playing carelessly like this is a no-go. You have to carefully inch your way forward to not mess up a single enemy encounter. Playing that way, I got up to level 6. In later levels, evading enemy fire is practically impossible, and precise jumps are much more difficult, all in contrast to the Amiga original.
