NO TIME TO RELAX Review
Want a digital boardgame where you can earn points by earning money through buying pork butts? Then check out this Cheapness affordable gaming review of No Time to Relax [Episode 72]
In this review of the digital board game by Porcelain Fortress shows how it:
-Has lovely, colourful, cartoony visuals with archetypical character design, heavy cartoon style and is presented in a very elegant compact way for a boardgame
-Going off that perhaps it goes without saying that a lot of the gags are visual in nature and they are pretty good... enough to make new players chuckle (The odd weird reference when you eat a lot of fast food, some dark jokes, a very heavy handed rocket) and it has text gags too - that is a lot of story for this genre
-Has surprisingly relaxing music (Easy listening) that somehow also captures the feeling of being busy (Just one track though)
-Dice rolls are replaced by time available and thus you need to use it wisely per week (Turn) to move around town, improve yourself (Get an education, better job etc.) and rack up points (Points for saved money, health, level of education, bonus objectives and even happiness) to try and win in this game of life (That is like a crass version of the boardgame "Life")
-If you forget to eat or sometimes relax, the next turn you will be penalized by starting with less time, if you're clothes fall apart you need new ones to work (Sometimes better clothes for some better jobs) and if you don't have the money for them you'll be stuck for a while. Get enough work experience and levels of education to get better paying jobs (If some of the jobs require more education for less pay - but they may have other strategic benefits, less commute time probably) and remember to pay your rent and try not to walk around with too much money... getting robbed is easy
-You can buy items for direct boosts to your happiness score and gym to improve your health score... Buy a pet and keep them happy and healthy for bonus points. Buy tickets to a show for a big boost, buy faster modes of transportation or a fridge to automatically eat and become more efficient and by the end have the most amount of points to win
-Randomness is provided by random cards that are drawn per turn that can help or hinder your health, wallet and happiness (Nothing takes away knowledge it seems or at the very least your degree) and in competitive mode you can spend happiness and health to cast offensive curses that will for example have all the other players get robbed or make a particular building unusable (Can't eat fast food at the fast food place or can't go to your job at the bank etc.) so I doubt there is a micromanagement plan to victory and you might not be where you expected to be by a specific turn
-Perhaps obviously it has local hotseat multiplayer and remote play together worked for me but you can add AI players in casual mode which can be surprisingly and amusingly realistic (Differing skill levels that you can't choose and they may make mistakes that a computer shouldn't like wasting time turning up for work in the wrong clothes... sometimes they repeatedly click their desired action when they are out of time to appear frustrated. Maybe this is creepy) but this may not be enough for you to play alone versus AI players (Who can't curse you as they are not available in competitive mode) but it's neat
