We are regularly switching up who does what, since it doesn't really seem to matter. I hope that by doing this early, I can avoid tougher situations later on by just having more skills or the right skills. It would also be nice not to have everyone be at level 70 for one single class with everything else at 1, or so I should think.
The game is introducing Clones to the plot, but I was under the impression this was cloning the whole time, by accident or otherwise. At first the story moved between past and present without warning, so I assumed "yeah there are multiples of everyone this is normal" until it became clear that this was just a series of flashbacks. However, the whole "everyone is born at an age they can fight at" thing and the stolen attack names and catchphrases all suggest stolen dna, and that's clones stuff. This is all to say, I saw it coming.
Against the philosophy of "avoid battles and cash out on bonus exp" of previous sessions, I have been picking lots of fights this session, and even partook of the dlc character's initial encounter. I do not like them, but they have Break, which is very useful when the only other Break we have is the inferior Side Break. Or maybe Side Break is better for Chain Attacks because landing hits on the side gives larger bonus points? Not sure.
I spent a while with a party that couldn't do the Break+Topple+Daze, and it resulted in battles taking a really long time, needing 3 chain attacks for one boss enemy dude. Not making that mistake again unless I'm busting out the full hammers squad again later.
The Oroborous (however you spell it) mechanics are not yet clear to me. It seems that you can use the A button move feasibly if you manage your time near perfectly, but then you guarantee a large cooldown. So far I'm mostly using it as a get-out-of-jail-free card, since I can't get hurt while in the form, and enemies tend to telegraph their larger, more devastating attacks. The damage output of these forms is pretty lackluster, and is barely above the alternative if at all. The attacks have secondary effects, sure, but they don't seem to land consistently, attacks miss just as often, and I can't even access the Level 3 benefits because I can't reach Level 3 (and/or I don't know how). At best I've reached Level 1, but you don't get cool "break enemies AOE" effects for that to my knowledge. Since your normal Arts don't charge while being big mech dude, it's basically only useful as a spotdodge that lasts up to 20 seconds.
