Old Friends, Removing Mold, ESSEJ, Last 3 Runaways, & Files On Alan Wake? (Control Ultimate 7)
So at the end of the last session I tried to start to do the Old Friends mission and I died. That normally wouldn't stopped me from progressing a side quest, but after a long session fighting one monster repeatedly I decided to take complete it this session and surprisingly it went smoothly. I'm not exactly sure why i died the first time, but I go against the same Hiss and beat him after going back in, which snowballed into me doing the complete mission without much issue.
With a bit of confidence I set out to complete the Removing The Mold mission, which was a bit more of an issue than I originally thought. I had to find the mold, which took... time and thinking... let me explain. Unlike the Old Friends side mission for example, The Mold locations are "near" certain areas. I went into this thinking I could simply go to an area and then just find The Mold, but there was more to it than that. To find The Mold that needs to be gotten rid of I needed to follow mold trails until I found the creature in question. It took me a short amount of time to figure this out and once I did I mostly was able to follow the trails and get rid of The Mold creatures. The only thing that semi bothers me about this mission is that Underhill says she's going to send people to deal with the remaining Mold, but i've gone into enough places that I'm concerned that's going to be a tall order and I'm bot sure if I'll see those results before I complete this game...
So while scouring every department looking for Mold I did wonder into a new department. I quickly was confused by said department because it only housed a mirror. After a quick puzzle using reflection I unlocked the door that gave me access to the mirror. Then I was able to step inside, which was a mirrored version of the same department. I thought it was cool until I found a fight with myself. I fought an evil version of Jesse called ESSEJ. I luckily didn't have to throw myself at it too many times before I won.
Moving on, I technically was on my to The Prime Candidate Program section of research to see the evidence Dylan/Hiss said would be there and would have to pass through that section to get find the projector, but seeing how that was only place I couldn't access before I figured that I would find the last runaways. Luckily most of these weren't that bad
The Rubber Duck- it basically was The Moving Letters, but one object which made easier to deal with, but a bit harder to catch
Mannequin- This one wasn't hard at all. I found in a dark corner and once I did it multiplied itself and all I hand to do was find the one that was intractable.
Flamingo- This one however was the worse one. Technically getting to it wasn't the problem... the main trick to reach it is to levitate without touch the ground if its shifted. Touch solid ground and continue to levitate till you reach the end of the corridor, then touch the Flamingo. Simple right? unfortunately it's not, because the moment you start to cleanse the Flamingo you're transported into another fight with The Former. The fight isn't much different from the one you do when you encounter The Fridge, but dying does mean that you must go through the entire process of reaching the Flamingo each time into to fight The Former. I eventually was able to beat the The Former and completed this quest. Despite winning against The Former again, I hope there is an option to kill it for good eventually.
Lastly after dealing with the Hiss and Mannequin I was able to poke around The Prime Candidate Program and I found out 3 things.
1- The Federal Bureau Of Control selected both Jesse & Dylan to be directors because of their interaction with the Projector
2- Jesse was being watched and followed by the bureau since she was a kid
3- Alan Wake is cannon in this game?
I know the first to things are interesting, I found a recoding of young Jesse talking to a therapist or possibly the bureau itself and saw pictures of Jesse at detailing her travels. I even unlocked an outfit that matches Dylan's that read P9 because I was the next choose to lead, the Alan Wake being cannon to me stands out so much more. After reading and listening to what I have while traversing the building, I'm surprised Jesse found it shocking that they were watching her. Other the hand I literally completed Alan Wake Remastered before starting this game, So to find information about that game stood out to me. The files on Wake and Bright Falls don't exactly line up with what I accomplished, but it did give me some insight on lingering question I had about the ending which was nice. I wonder if I'll find more?
I ended this session this session trying to find the outfit I unlocked for defeating ESSEJ. I also discovered another audio issue before I ended so I wanted to reset before talking with anyone else to avoid more muted audio when interacting with anyone.
