In my view of human history and likely events, it makes more sense to me that a society or nation would fall due to an inability to maintain itself, than as a result of adversaries or a massive disaster. Throughout our history, civilizations have come and gone, waxed and waned, yet humanity has not only survived through it, but flourished and advanced. There's nothing wrong with preparing emergency supplies for a variety of situations, and that's something many of us likely take for granted. I don't think it's sensible to hunker down for an event with very minimal chances of ever occurring. However, those individuals who do, would have free reign to call out, "Told you so," if they wound up being right. That's merely my take on things though.
