Out Runners - Arcade - Playthrough all routes, cars & endings, 2 player race & jingle bells song
Full one credit clear gameplay, longplay, playthrough, walkthrough, guide of the original arcade version of OutRunners the third arcade game in the SEGA Out Run series. This huge video shows the ending for every car all stages and routes, along with the hidden Jingle Bells music track and a two player dual screen race at the end! The game was designed to be played in two players and every unit featured two screens it could also be linked to a second cabinet for four player support.
Featuring eight different cars and 10 different ending stages OutRunners is also double the side of the original Outrun. A large chuck of the stages are on both the East and West routes so there are only 20 different stages in total.
After the somewhat disappointing Turbo Out Run this was a return to form using the SEGA System 32 hardware with beautiful scaling sprites and a wealth of SEGA music. The special Jingle bells track is a hidden songs you get by pressing the two music switch buttons together.
Developed by SEGA AM1, but it's not entirely clear who the staff were due to the lack of in-game credits. Out Runners didn't fair that well in the arcade perhaps in part due to the size and cabinet costs and was pretty rare to find as a result. Arcade juggernauts like Mortal Kombat II were also doing the rounds at the time.
A home port was made to the SEGA Mega Drive, which was heavily cut down. While impressive on the system itself with the two player split screen. If you were expecting a port even remotely close to the arcade look you were in for a shock. Why SEGA foolishly didn't port this game to the SEGA Saturn we can only wonder, the lack of any release outside the original Mega Drive version suggests the source code is long lost.
