It has recently come to my attention that as of the 8.5 update (https://tinyurl.com/yxs6zr9p), Fortnite still has not fixed its positional audio 8 months after they initially promised HRTF (https://tinyurl.com/yx8phlgq). As the premiere spatial audio channel on Youtube--and also the only spatial audio channel--I find this completely unacceptable. How hard is it to checkmark "Enable Spatialization" and then "Binaural" in UE4 SDK, people?
Needless to say, as the ambassador of all things HRTF, I took it upon myself to scour the internet for a superior multiplayer shooter that runs on Unreal Engine 4. What I found was Paintball, a humble indie title by the hard-working folks at 1210games. Not since the days of Counter-Strike LAN parties has such a strategic team-based shooter been released. Paired with the X3DAudio HRTF wrapper, you get a complete 360 degree soundscape that utterly yeets Fortnite's audio. Since Paintball runs in a standalone executable, you also completely circumvent Tencent's spyware platform and Russian hackers stealing your account. The best part? With a "name your own price" model, you can just name $0.00 and get a free PC multiplayer shooter with none of the predatory lootboxes.
