Painting my T800 Terminator mask
I finally got around to spray painting my T800 Terminator mask that I received at the start of the year. It was a black plastic Terminator mask that can be used for Airsoft so it gives decent face protection and you can still see out of the mesh eye sections.
The mask comes with an elastic strap that you can use to adjust and tighten so that you can wear it comfortably and rubber inserts so that it sits on your forehead and cheeks to project you from the plastic of the mask.
I purchased a $3.55 can of Fiddly Bits spray paint from Bunnings Warehouse in the Aluminium colour after deciding that I didn't want to spend too much on a chrome paint that wasn't going to give me a mirror finish anyway. I had some black acrylic paint and beige acrylic paint lying around so I used these to paint the recesses and teeth respectively.
After masking the eyes which were already black but with red circles for the eyes which I wanted to keep as is, I spray painted the rest of the mask with the spray paint and then let it dry overnight. The next day I removed the masking from the eyes and filled in the recesses with black paint to give the appearance of holes and to make the whole thing pop. Lastly I painted the teeth with the beige paint. It was a rough job and the paint brush I used wasn't very fine so I had to be careful but not too careful to the point where I worried about filling in the holes completely with black paint.
All in all I'm happy with the result. The aluminium paint still has a nice shine to it that gives the mask a metallic look and the overall effect is still good as you can instantly tell that it's a T800 Terminator mask.
These masks are available from eBay and Wish for around $18 - $30 dollars depending on where you find them. Mine was completely black except for the eyes which had red circles.
