Papo & Yo is a 3D Adventure Platformer in a Urban-Alice-in-Wonderland like area.
You're playing as the young boy Quico, that is hiding in a wall closet. Since a Monster is stomping outside. Suddenly on the wall a glowing spiral appears and you see how Quico steps through it, basically escaping his home and his monster.

As soon as you're outside you see a girl running down the houses and start drawing a pattern on the wall, and running through a newly opened door, but you can't follow her that way. So you make your way around the wall. This happens by pulling platforms out of the wall or moving the blocklike houses to a position, where you can use it as platform.
In one instance. the houses and steel girder form a antlike creature, on whiches back you ride to the next point.
So in other words, what seems to be normally impossible to move, does move.
Which is why i call this game a Urban-Alice-in-Wonderland. The change from the Normal world into the Fantasy World isn't as dramatic as in Alice in Wonderland, but still a escape into a Fantasy World.

What i also noticed is, that the further the game goes, the worse Quicos Clothes get.

At some point you even have to deal with the monster, but this is also in a unexpected way. The Monster is still a Monster, but it is docile and likes to eat fruits. You can even jump off it's belly.
But it always try to get these Green Frogs, when they are close, it really wants them and isn't giving up, even if they are close but out of reach. And at the first situation the Monster gets one of these frogs it's behavior completely changes, instead of being lazy, hungry and docile, it starts attacking you, running towards you (heavy stomps on the ground) if it grabs you, it starts lunging you around.

So yes, the game is a Fantasy Alice in Wonderland type of game, but with a boy that is fleeing into his fantasy, into a world where he has the power to escape and to change it. So it's a pretty heavy theme.
We all know what these frogs are referencing and who the monster is.
