(Part 1) Self-Quarantining and Exploring at the Abandoned Pleasanton Mine
Self-quarantining at an abandoned talc mine? Why not? Tom, Julie, and I headed to the Pleasanton Mine in Death Valley to explore and document this old talc mine that was in service from 1942 to 1968. The workings were quite extensive on multiple levels, and in Part 1 we explore the uppermost workings before descending a 100-foot vertical shaft to reach the lower workings. We encountered some excellent examples of square-set timbering in some of the stopes in this mine as well as a lot of collapse and cave-ins. For those of you who like seeing a lot of classic timbering, this mine won't disappoint you. Talc mines usually have a lot of timbering in them to provide support to the talc and the Pleasanton Mine was no exception. I'm certainly glad you've decided to follow along with us in this video, so let me know what you think!
