It's nice to take from the usual gruff dwarfs, hungry dead, and warriors tainted by the touch of Chaos.
A while back we showed off some of the wide range of cultures and heritage that Paymaster Games draws inspiration from for their models. Today seemed like a good day to show off a few more of their models.
The White Buffalo Calf Woman comes from Lakota, who . The Wendigo is often part of North Eastern tribal folklore. The Tamangori was a giant of the Cook Islands, and the dog travois were used by many of the tribes of the Great Plains.
I do enjoy going down the rabbit hole of reading upon the origins of where a lot of these models come from, as well as the importance they hold in their respective cultures.
My initial thought is almost all these models would work great in the Northstar/ Osprey games. The Tamangori would certainly look the part of an island ogre in a game of Ghost Archipelago, and the North American models would easily find a home in games like Dracula's America or whatever your skirmish game of choice may be.
While I may prefer my tabletop Wendigo to have the skull head I think the rest of the model really nails what a Wendigo is supposed to be.
The challenge for me is going to be painting these. The Wendigo I can handle, lots of dead and decaying colors. The White Buffalo Calf Woman is going to need mostly whites and blue shades unless I go more ethereal with her. We won't mention how many minutes I spent looking at photos of dog breeds that the Plains tribes bred...
The toughest nut to paint is going to be the Tamangori- he really needs some traditional tattoos on his arms... I think I'm going to need some new brushes for him!
If you get a chance I always encourage people to first check out the webpage, and then go do some digging on what and where all these models come from!
