Perfect Playthrough: Sonic 3 and Knuckles Part 15 (Knuckles in Sonic 2)
2I play through Sonic 2 as Knuckles. You can do this by locking on Sonic 2 on top of Sonic & Knuckles. All of Knuckles' abilities, stats and physics carry over from Sonic & Knuckles, even into Sonic 2 for better and for worse.
Anyways, Perfect Playthrough conditions are as usual, and that is to beat the game with all 7 chaos emeralds. Given the fact that all but one of the Special Stages cap off the ring acquisition for each emerald at 140 (the lone exception being Emerald 6 at 170), this makes collecting them all as Knuckles insanely easy. The game makes up for this by nerfing Knuckles' jump and speed, making certain sections like the final couple bosses significantly more difficult.
