I'm all out of ammo, and fucks, this ship is sinking. After Wrath: Aeon of Ruin, and Graven? I expected that the worst was behind me though in curiosity and for this series, I decided to see what this, supposedly highly expected sequel to not just Ion Fury but its expansion pack Aftershock (which, is still, not on consoles.. which doesn't surprise me one bit) and is almost like Wrath in a sense it has so much to its name, good and bad.

Released in April 2024 on Steam and then on Consoles on May 30th 2024, Phantom Fury is a direct continuation of the plot following the end of Ion Fury: Aftershock in which Shelly "Bombshell" Harrison is awakened from a coma and told that a mysterious artificat, the Demon core is being sought, and its up to us to save the world and confront our past following our defeat of Dr. Heskel.

The first thing is that Phantom Fury takes a major inspiration, imo from Half-Life in the sense with its large open maps and design. We have a punch attack which is logged to the right stick when we press down which is supposed to be a combo when attacking enemies while we have a weapon out, its highly unwieldy but is needed to break through debris at times. Our trusty "Electrifyer" Baton powers up machines/shocks enemies and the loverboy is as powerful as before but our arsenal feels so generic with a popgun pistol, shotgun that is punchy but still, agonizing only holds 48 shells in reserve like Ion Fury, and later weapons are just as flimsy feeling.

Enemy A.I. is both severely incompetent but also oddly op: Most of the GDF soldiers you'll see always know where you are but can't move in position sometimes, but are a serious threat due to their hitscan fire, drones? fuck'em because they are more damaging and explode after a while which takes a chunk of health off. There's a large amount of interactivity with picking up objects, various puzzles use this and I suppose its fine? But I feel that Phantom Fury's a example of a rushed sequel that can't quite mimic what the first game did.
