German company magnussoft have the trademarks to a number of old Epyx games titles. They've taken them, along with a number of other classic Commodore 64/Amiga games and made some fairly simple remakes. Where they didn't have the copyright they just changed the game name, thus this is called Pitstart, instead of Pitstop!
It's a fairly basic re-imagining of the Pitstop games (the PC version of Pitstop II is the first game in my F1 playlist). It does allow you to play in both fullscreen and splitscreen 2 player mode though.
There are 7 rival cars to race against, across 9 circuits, however all the tracks share the same scenery, so there's not much variation. None of them are real-life tracks, so the circuits listed below are just what I was aiming for.
1. Race Start (Monza): 0:00 Races are fairly scrappy affairs, with rival cars frequently taking hits and even retiring. Your tyres go orange then red as they wear out, necessitating a pitstop.
2. Spray Effects (Silverstone): 0:25 There's no rain in this game, so here's a few corners instead!
3. Tunnel & View (Monaco): 0:39 No tracks have any city scenery, so here's a fairly straight bit!
4. Wet Track (Spa-Francorchamps): 0:51 Again, no rain, just some corners that are a bit like Eau Rouge in shape!
5. Pitstop (Interlagos): 1:05 Welcome to the longest pitstop in history! You have to switch between the refueller, tyre changing guy (there's only one!) and the driver, to leave the pits. If the fuel gets over full, it restarts from empty, wasting more time (the original Pitstop games had this "feature" too!). Very clunky!
6. Huge Crash (Montreal): 1:51 Crashes eventually wear out your tyres, when they're too red, your car stops, puffing smoke, and you're out of the race. In Pitstop II on PC you explode and come back to life, just wasting time, so the stakes are a bit higher in this remake!
