Planescape Torment Enhanced Edition Getting Started Guide
Welcome to this Getting Started Guide for Planescape Torment Enhanced Edition! Today I give you a few basic starter tips for the game, things that will ease the transition from "normal" rpgs into Planescape Torment. The tips covers overarching things, and the video contains no major spoilers.
Planescape Torment Enhanced Edition is very different from most other roleplaying games in some major respects: It's incredibly dialogue heavy, many (good) dialogue options are gated behind ability scores, the game frequently presents puzzles that seems to be one thing but that is in fact another, and magical items in the game often appear mundane and are different from classic dungeons and dragons items.
Planescape Torment Enhanced Edition is a technically updated version of the original Planescape Torment, while the story remains the same. There are innumerable bug fixes though, as well as enhanced graphics, new shiny features such as zoom and more enhancements like that. Now the game is available both for PC, and for tablets, which is great for casual play. This first look at enhanced edition planescape uses the pc version though.
Enhanced Edition Planescape: Torment is primarily story-driven and combat is not prominently featured. The protagonist, known as The Nameless One, is an immortal who has lived many lives but has forgotten all about them, even forgetting his own name. Enhanced Edition Planescape focuses on his journey through the city of Sigil and other planes to reclaim his memories of these previous lives. Several characters in the game may join The Nameless One on his journey, and most of these characters have encountered him in the past or have been influenced by his actions in some way.
The original Planescape Torment was made by BioWare in 1999, and had only moderate comercial success. The game itself however was, in my opinion, the peak of BioWare’s Advanced Dungeons and Dragons series. Following the success of Baldur’s Gate Enhanced edition Beamdog have gone and updated Planescape Torment as well, and now, 18 years after the original release, we have Planescape Torment Enhanced Edition in our hands, which feels truly exciting to me.
