Planescape: Torment - Enhanced Edition - Let's Play | Dhall - Mortuary scribe | Episode 1
Welcome to this Planescape Torment Enhanced Edition Let's Play! I hope you will enjoy it guys, I sure am... Planescape Torment Enhanced edition (PTEE) is a dialogue driven rpg in the infinity engine style, now enhanced :) In this first Lets play episode (E1) we wake up on a slab, after having been slightly dead, meet Morte and have a long conversation with Dhall - Mortuary scribe.
Dhall
Dhall - Mortuary scribe, is an extraordinarily old and sickly scribe found on the 2nd Floor of the Mortuary in the Receiving Room. Dhall is of the Dustman faction and is key to the Nameless One finding out how he got to the Mortuary.
The Nameless One has met Dhall many times before and over time has come to see him as part of the Mortuary itself. Although the scribe says that he has never truly known who he is because he has never known himself. His entire life he has searched for a state of emotionlessness so as to be able to cross the Eternal Boundary and reach True Death. He has been covering up the Nameless One's immortality for some time now.
Dhall has grown a particular dislike for the collector Pharod and feels as if the man is robbing the dead bodies he brings in of what little dignity they carried in life by stealing their belongings. Over the course of many years Dhall - Mortuary scribe has grown very sombre in his beliefs although he has come to accept that he should not try to force his beliefs on people. He has saved the Nameless One from cremation a score of times by postponing the cremation until he awakens from his death, he is an unusually loyal friend in comparison to the peoples of Sigil, probably due to his Githzerai nature.
Morte
A floating skull with an acerbic attitude, Morte is a chaotic good character, the first to join the Nameless One's party.
While he lacks a body, he is a capable warrior in many aspects, biting with his sharp fangs and throwing foes off guard with taunts, while his smaller size, lack of vital organs and pseudo-undead nature protect him from many attacks that would normally inflict serious wounds. Morte and the Nameless One have an extended history together. Morte is the source of much of the game's humor, not the least being the chaotic conversations that can result between him and the Nameless One, whom he refers to as Chief.
The Nameless one
The being now known only as The Nameless One is one of the closest things the multiverse has to an immortal. Precisely how long he has lived or how many reincarnations he has had is unknown, but judging from some of the contacts he has made (Lum the Mad, among others) he is probably at least several thousand years old, and a former "incarnation" notes that he has died several thousand times.
The Mortuary
The Mortuary is a large, circular black building located in the Hive district of the city of Sigil. It is the main headquarters of the Dustmen faction, who collect the city's corpses in order to either cremate them, or raise the ones they bought the rights to as an undead workforce.
Planescape Torment Enhanced Edition is a technically updated version of the original Planescape Torment, while the story remains the same. There are innumerable bug fixes though, as well as enhanced graphics, new shiny features such as zoom and more enhancements like that. Now the game is available both for PC, and for tablets, which is great for casual play. This episode 1 of Planescape Torment Enhanced Edition Let's Play uses the pc version though.
Enhanced Edition Planescape: Torment is primarily story-driven and combat is not prominently featured. The protagonist, known as The Nameless One, is an immortal who has lived many lives but has forgotten all about them, even forgetting his own name. This Planescape Torment Enhanced Edition Let's Play focuses on his journey through the city of Sigil and other planes to reclaim his memories of these previous lives. Several characters in the game may join The Nameless One on his journey, and most of these characters have encountered him in the past or have been influenced by his actions in some way.
The original Planescape Torment was made by BioWare in 1999, and had only moderate comercial success. The game itself however was, in my opinion, the peak of BioWare’s Advanced Dungeons and Dragons series. Following the success of Baldur’s Gate Enhanced edition Beamdog have gone and updated Planescape Torment as well, and now, 18 years after the original release, we have Planescape Torment Enhanced Edition in our hands, which feels truly exciting to me.
