Minecraft Colosseum - The Human starting area (Primecraft SMP E36 - Minecraft 1.11)
13In this Minecraft 1.11 Solo episode on the Primecraft Minecraft 1.11 SMP we create the starting spot for the Humans in the Minecraft Colosseum arena by doing a fortification with towers, walls and the works! :)
This Minecraft Colosseum fortification serve two purposes: They need to contain the players of the game, and they need to look cool. That's the challenge :) In this case we build with Hardened Clay for the roofs, giving colour and drawing the eye.

Each starting spot in the Arena has to be the same size (roughly), and they each have to have four exits - on in each cardinal direction. The left and right one leads to the opposing teams, while the forward one leads to the Minecraft PVP arena. Each spot has a theme, and in this episode we tackle the Minecraft Colosseum Human starting area.
The technique I use for the roofs of these towers is to surround blue and light blue (in a random mix) Hardened Clay with cobble slabs, thus showing only half of the cobble. This has the effect of clay slabs! Hardened clay in Minecraft is a beautiful block available the whole Minecraft color palette, but it has no slabs or stairs, which limits it's usefulness significantly. This is part of a solution to this, and it allows us to use it for roofs and giving us the colour we need, while still making the roofs seem curved.
For this minecraft colosseum build the minecraft block chart is oak logs, oak wood (and it's varieties) cobble, andersite and smooth stone, and finally blue and light blue hardened clay. In the end it turns out nicely, the clay giving just the right amount of color to the build while the logs and stone gives it a roboust feel needed in a fortification!
