The final update to Planet Nomads before release into Steam Early Access arrived this past week with version 0.5.0. This update tacked on a bunch of new updates both visible and behind the scenes to make the gameplay more smooth and efficient. Up first, a opening cut scene gives the player the sense of crash landing on a new planet while in the escape pod / sleeping chamber. Some behind the scenes development means slightly less lag and glitches when wandering about, but the development is on going.
Navigation has greatly improved with the help of the top compass displaying an icon showing the location of the sleeping chamber and solar beacons. Hopefully this prevents players from getting lost, as I have shown could happen quite easily when off exploring. Crafting new items from the building blocks menu continues to unlock additional items that can be used to further enhance personal items.
The update returned the ability to craft vehicles! Learning how to make your own vehicle from scratch out of spare parts and building blocks could be challenging, yet fun. Quite possibly a necessity if you plan to explore the vast planet and it's different caves and biomes. Unfortunately the vehicle building system is still buggy and may have corrupted my save file. We'll have to wait and see it it can be salvaged in future updates.
