The first gym leader I fought was Cress and his Lillipup was 3HKO'd with Tackle. I switched Tepig with Pansage so it also received experience. Pansage couldn't 3HKO Panpour with Vine Whip, so I needed to use Scratch on it too. I received the badge and exited the gym. Fennel dragged me into her lab and gave me HM Cut. I taught it to Pansage and went back to the Dreamyard.
I cut down the tree and was confronted by two Plasma Grunts. I 2HKO'd the first one's Patrat with Tackle and also 2HKO'd the second one's Purrlion with Tackle/Ember. The Grunts fled and I returned to Fennels lab. I received the C-Gear and the useless Pal Pad. I healed up my Pokémon and bought some Super Potions and Repels. I entered Route 3 and fought the Twins here. Both Purrlions are 2HKO'd by a combination of Tepig's Flame Charge and Pansage's Vine Whip.
