The battle with Falkner is about the same. Rage raises Totodile's attack thanks to Pidgey using Tackle. I got really lucky with that critical hit against Pidgeotto. Normally I 2HKO it and reset if it uses Roost. I received the Egg and bought some Repels.
I dodged every trainer in Route 32, but battled all but one in the Union Cave. I needed some fast earned experience to let Totodile learn Ice Fang at the right time. Then I saved after battling the Pokémaniac.
