The music in this battle made me realize that there are a LOT more battle tracks in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet than any previous Pokémon game—and since I’m nowhere close to finishing up Snacksworth’s quests, my battle music collection is still incomplete! I keep a collection of the opening 30 seconds of each battle theme in this game so I can correctly identify them in the match data in each description, and I update them as more become available.

The last time I updated them was to account for Pecharunt's theme. I was hoping that the hypnotized people of Mossui Town would get their own battle theme, but I guess that counts as an overworld theme rather than a battle theme.

This session will consist of single battles, by the way. The first half will feature the Oinkologne Team, and the second half will feature the return of the Lokix Team.

Type: Single Battle
Opponent: まいける (Maikeru)
Battle Court: Medali (Fortune Eatery)
Music: Reshiram
My Pokémon: Wilbur (Oinkologne) (Male), Shelby (Magcargo), Isaac (Iron Jugulis)
Opponent's Pokémon: デカまんだぼ (Dekamandabo) (Roaring Moon), かなづちゃん (Kanadsu-chan) (Tinkaton), ガチグマ (Ursaluna) (Bloodmoon)

Yeah yeah, I know, Bloodmoon Ursaluna only showed up at the end despite me giving this battle a title based on it, but this was the best title I could come up with this one. It seems like my opponent uses him as a cleanup hitter, of sorts, with the other Pokémon laying the ground work and Ursaluna coming in to finish the job. I don’t know if I have shown its signature move yet, Blood Moon, but it turns up in this battle, and as far as Normal-type moves go, it’s one of the most terrifying.

For that matter, my opponent seems to be a fan of very powerful moves that can’t be used consecutively, as this Tinkaton has Gigaton Hammer, the only other move with that distinction. Tinkaton is a troublesome Pokémon to deal with overall though, because weird stats and that giant hammer aside, she can learn all sorts of disruptive moves that can really limit your options and give the other Pokémon an easier time, one of the rare support Pokémon that works very well in single battles too. (Of couse, Encore is a very annoying move to deal with in general.)

Seriously though, that is some unreal power on Roaring Moon with Outrage! Both Shelby (Magcargo) and Wilbur (Oinkcologne) have some pretty high Defense on them, but this Roaring Moon was tearing through them like paper. Even with an Attack of 139, it has to be boosted. In hindsight, I think this is Choice Band. You’ve probably seen in the past that Oinkologne’s Tera type is Fairy. Had I realized it sooner, I could’ve defended Oinkologne from Outrage better and force a switch to Ursaluna, where he’ll have to eat a powered up Body Press, or at least a consequence-free Super Fang, upon a switch-in. Still, it was great defeating the opponent's Roaring Moon, an endgame Pokémon with stats like Legendary Pokémon, using an "early game Normal-type mammal" Pokémon.

My opponent may have made some sort of pun with Roaring Moon’s name involving the superhero Tekkaman, though I don’t know enough Japanese to put it together. I’m not sure about Tinkaton’s nickname at all other than it’s likely derived from its Japanese name, デカヌチャン (Dekanuchan). Ursaluna is not nicknamed. The opposing trainer’s name is one possible transliteration of “Michael” into hiragana, though I more commonly see “マイクル” (Maikuru). And quite fitting that Reshiram’s theme plays while up against an opponent with Reshiram in their trainer card.
