This was NOT a Challenge I was looking forward to, because it only allowed Chargers, which are my least adept weapon class. Of course, having past Challenges themed on Rollers and Brushes together, on Splatlings, and on Blasters, one based around Chargers would be inevitable. (I take it one based on Sloshers wuld be next, since besides Shooters, that’s the only other weapon class left with more than three nonbranded specimens.)

This is the Pacific Daylight Time schedule. January 31st, 2024 was a Wednesday, and February 1st, 2024 was a Thursday, so most of these sessions were locked out from me due to me either needing to sleep or needing to be at work:
January 31st, 2024: 6 PM to 8 PM, 10 PM to midnight
February 1st, 2024: 2 AM to 4 AM, 6 AM to 8 AM, 10 AM to noon, 2 PM to 4 PM

I thought it was a longshot, but I brought the Goo Tuber into this one. (The original one, not the Custom Goo Tuber.) I figured if my aim is not that great, I could at least augment it via the Torpedo and Tenta Missiles. I also figure that the ability to shoot as soon as you get out of ink would work well against opponents who have to charge. This is not a weapon I’ve covered in a normal Splatoon 3 video yet (but I have in Splatoon 2), so hopefully, I can get around to that eventually.

Matches are Tower Control, probably to ensure we have people moving slowly enough to catch. The stages are Inkblot Art Academy and Mincemeat Metalworks. There were some minor tweaks to the latter stages recently, though I’m too much of a philistine to see much of a difference. I’ve also changed my characrer name to Pinocchio because the thought of the little wooden puppet playing Splatoon 3 amuses me. (And it feels like the sort of game Pinocchio would play. I’m no liar!)

00:31 - Match #1
Inkblot Art Academy
Tower Control (Fully Charged)
Snipewriter 5H
Color Scheme: Blueberry Lemonade
Song: “Aquasonic” by H2Whoa
Octolings: 5
I began with the Snipewriter 5H, however, because that was the one Charger I had any degree of confidence in, as missing a shot doesn’t carry as much of a penalty as the other Chargers, and I have bad aim. I also figured the Tacticooler would be good support for my teammates, whom I’d figure would be more competent than me, as well as providing instant cover. Well, as you can see, things didn’t quite turned out as I had planned.

06:08 - Match #2
Mincemeat Metalworks
Tower Control (Fully Charged)
Goo Tuber
Color Scheme: Candy Pumpkins
Song: “Rockagilly Blues” by Yoko & the Gold Bazookas
Octolings: 6
Here, I decided to give the Goo Tuber a try. Because you know what? I realized the Goo Tuber makes for a good weapon to use while you’re on the Tower, since you can store up a charge waiting on there, then pop out and hit people with it. Those Torpedos and Tenta Missiles also cause people to go on the defense instead of trying to attack the Tower, though it doesn’t work on everyone.

9:39 - Match #3
Mincemeat Metalworks
Tower Control (Fully Charged)
Goo Tuber
Color Scheme: Action Movie Poster
Song: “Headhammer” by C-Side
Octolings: 6
I’m not entirely sure what transpired in this match, but I’m happy I was able to contribute, both by picking off opponents and by riding the Tower. I did notice that opponents became predictable, however, picking their favorite perches, made more obvious even when hiding by throwing a Torpedo in their direction and seeing if it actually seeks someone out. The ink they leave, if they don’t shoot it down in time, also slows them down in getting back to those perches.

12:12 - Match #4
Inkblot Art Academy
Tower Control (Fully Charged)
Goo Tuber
Color Scheme: Wario
Song: “Paintscraper” by C-Side
Octolings: 3
So I noticed a little ledge in Inkblot Art Academy that allows me to quickly hop up onto the opposing side, one that’s not normally there in Turf War. I managed to get away with a LOT while up there while my teammates rode the Tower. I think it’s that people generally associate the Charger weapon class with standing somewhere patiently, whereas I…didn’t. Of course, I had to check up on my teammates’ progress to ensure they’re not getting hindered by opponents who do slip by. I’m not THAT kind of clueless “go for the opposing spawn!” Leeroy Jenkins kind of player.

16:29 - Match #5
Inkblot Art Academy
Tower Control (Fully Charged)
Goo Tuber
Color Scheme: Radioactive Watermelon
Song: “Ska-BLAM” by Yoko & the Gold Bazookas
Octolings: 4
I don’t know if other people had the same idea as me, but more often, I was seeing Goo Tubers on the other side. Rarely was I paired with another one though. Or maybe even though Chargers are one of the largest weapon classes besides Shooters, it’s still fairly limited, and the Goo Tuber is one of those Chargers that’s cut from a different mold (the others being the Snipewriters and the Bamboozlers).
