The next 7 Star Tera Raid Event is another starter Pokémon, or first partner Pokémon as it seems to be called, but I am always going to refer to them as starter Pokémon, because that is the term we have been using for 20 years, and I don't like the name change to first partner Pokémon, because any Pokémon can be a Trainer's first partner, and to me, starter Pokémon and first partner Pokémon sound like two different things, so they shouldn't even change the name "starter Pokémon", a name that we have been using for over 20 years.
Enough of this, I still cannot get over why they would change the name to first partner Pokémon, Meganium is the featured Pokémon, and it has a Psychic Tera Type, and this is the third 7 Star Tera Raid Event where the featured Pokémon is female, the first two being Delphox and Eevee, but it might not be the last because if ever Primarina comes to Tera Raid Events, that one is most likely going to be female.
At the start of the video, I enter a Mystery Gift code that gives you an Iron Hands with the Water Tera Type, and it was used in the Latin America International Championship. Back to Meganium, its moves are Seed Bomb, Zen Headbutt, Body Press, and Curse, and its additional moves are Light Screen, Reflect, and Bulldoze, and it has the Hidden Ability of Leaf Guard. For scripted actions, Meganium starts off the battle with Reflect and Light Screen, at 85% HP or 80% time is when it puts up a shield, and 79% time is when your stats are reset, Meganium resets its stats at 70% HP and at 40% HP, and it uses Bulldoze at 30% HP. This one is actually very challenging, you wouldn't expect to have a hard time against Meganium of all Pokémon, but you should never underestimate it, it has good defensive stats, it has access to Curse to increase its Attack and Defense, and as Body Press uses the user's Defense stat to calculcate damage, it can hit very hard when its Defense is very high.
The best counter for this Tera Raid Battle is Skeledirge, this is because Meganium uses Curse, and any normal counter will struggle against it, Skeledirge has Unaware, which ignores any of Meganium's stat boosts, and with a Ghost Tera Type and after using Torch Song many times, Skeledirge can get in some good damage with Shadow Ball, and Protect is there when Meganium resets your stats. The Pokémon that I was originally going to use was Incineroar with Bulk Up, Power Trip, and Brick Break, but when I saw that Meganium knew Curse, I then went with Malamar, and the strategy is to start with Skill Swap to give Contrary to Meganium so that whenever it uses Curse, its Attack and Defense is lowered, and then use Night Slash to get in some damage. I felt that Malamar wasn't that much into dealing damage, but at least I did have some players using Skeledirge to deal with the opponent, I did have allies using Scizor and Giratina, but I had to use Malamar's Skill Swap to give them a chance, even if Defog from Giratina did improve Meganium's evasion.
Meganium does come with an Impish Nature, this pairs well with Curse, Seed Bomb, and Body Press, and it has Zen Headbutt which is powered up by its Psychic Tera Type, and before the announcement of the Tera Raid Event, I didn't even know Meganium could learn Zen Headbutt. It isn't really the best Pokémon for Tera Raid Events, it can use Swords Dance to boost its Attack and use moves like Petal Blizzard for dealing damage, but as a Grass-type Pokémon, it is outclassed by Torterra, Leafeon, Rillaboom, Chesnaught, Lurantis, and Ogerpon, as they have better attacking stats than Meganium. It can provide support with Reflect and Light Screen, but it competes with Pokémon like Blissey, Umbreon, Alcremie, and Grimmsnarl as a supporter, Meganium can even use Heal Pulse to heal its ally, and it can use Helping Hand to boost the power of their next move. The Psychic Tera Type isn't really the best for Meganium, because Psychic isn't really a good defensive type, it is weak to Bug, Dark, and Ghost, and with moves like U-turn and Knock Off being very popular moves in online battles, and with Flutter Mane and Gholdengo in the top usage charts for online battles, you are not going to make a Psychic Tera Type work on a defensive Pokémon, Meganium's best Tera Type options are Water or Fairy, which are great Tera Types for a Pokémon best for defense. Leaf Guard is a bad Ability, almost every Pokémon that gets Leaf Guard at least has a better Ability, to list examples, Leafeon, Jumpluff, Lurantis, and Tsareena have a better Ability to make use of, there is Zarude which has Leaf Guard, but that is its only Ability, it's suppose to protect the user from status conditions when the sun is active, but I don't get why you should take it over Chlorophyll, which some of the Pokémon that have Leaf Guard have, if only Meganium had a better Ability like Regenerator, then it would be a usable Pokémon in online battles.
