A new update is live in Sword & Shield, and there is going to be DLC for this game which will make it like an expansion version, so it's like Black 2 & White 2, and Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon where they were expansion versions. The new DLC for Sword & Shield will be Isle of Armor, which will be released in June, and The Crown Tundra, which will be released in November, both in 2020.
When you arrive at the Trainer Station at Wedgehurst, you will meet up with a new character, in Sword, it will be a Poison-type user named Klara, and in Shield, it will be a Psychic-type user named Avery, and they will tell you about the Isle of Armor, don't know why it's not spelt "Armour", the British spelling, as Galar is supposed to be based on the UK, due to how many British terms were referenced throughout this game. We also meet a new Galarian Form, it is Slowpoke, which is a pure Psychic-type, and it's like the Kantonian variant of Slowpoke. It cannot evolve yet, because to evolve Galarian Slowpoke, it requires a special item, it will evolve into Slowbro in Isle of Armor, or Slowking in The Crown Tundra, both Slowbro and Slowking have yet to be confirmed at the time. The update also announced that Rillaboom, Cinderace, and Inteleon will get Gigantamax Forms, and there was also concept art on Gigantamax Venusaur and Blastoise, and what looked to be Galarian Forms of Zapdos, Moltres, and Articuno, the Legendary Bird Trio of Kanto, and there will be returning Pokémon in those added DLC packs.
One thing I show off is that if you delete a TR move, you can reteach it through the Move Relearner, which I did not know about until very recently, so this is very handy for Pokémon with a very large TR movepool and you want to play around with their moves.
Next is the Wild Area Event, and some new Gigantamax Pokémon that will be appearing frequently, in Sword, you can find Gigantamax Coalossal and Flapple, and in Shield, you can find Gigantamax Lapras and Appletun, while Gigantamax Alcremie is in both versions.
Starting with Gigantamax Alcremie, its Fairy-type moves turn into G-Max Finale, which will heal Alcremie and its allies, so this makes Alcremie a handy Pokémon to use in Double Battles, and its Signature move, Decorate raises the Attack and Special Attack of the target. Its Hidden Ability is Aroma Veil, which prevents Alcremie from being affected by moves like Taunt, and it does get some nice support moves like Aromatherapy, Recover, Helping Hand, Misty Terrain, and a few others. It has good Special Attack, so it can make use of Calm Mind, along with Dazzling Gleam, Psyshock, Mystical Fire, Energy Ball, and Giga Drain, so that is some nice coverage options.
Then to go over Coalossal, Rock/Fire is a terrible defensive type combo, as it has glaring weaknesses to Water and Ground, two very common types, but Coalossal does have some useful moves, like Spikes, Stealth Rock, and Rapid Spin. It does have a unique Ability called Steam Engine, which will maximize its Speed, but the downside is that Coalossal is very slow. It does have very good Defense, and it is a decent mixed attacker with moves like Rock Slide, Flare Blitz, Earthquake, Scald, Flamethrower, Heavy Slam, Earth Power, Body Press, and a few others. Coalossal is a Pokémon that requires strategy, as you will need good prediction, if you switch it in against a Fire-type move, its Steam Engine gives it a huge Speed boost. Its Rock-type moves become G-Max Volcalith, which damages the target for four turns. Flash Fire is its Hidden Ability, but Flame Body and Steam Engine are more preferred.
Lapras's G-Max Move is G-Max Resonance, which will activate Aurora Veil and comes from its Ice-type moves, and as Dynamaxing doubles your HP if you give it Dynamax Candies, and since Lapras has good HP, it is a bulky tank. Its Hidden Ability is Hydration, which cures Lapras's status condition in the rain, so Max Geyser can be helpful if Lapras ends up being poisoned. I prefer Water Absorb, as that allows Lapras to heal from a Water-type move. It does have a nice movepool of Surf, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Psychic, Whirlpool, Perish Song, Drill Run, Megahorn, Iron Head, and a few others, this is a solid Pokémon all-around.
Now for both Flapple and Appletun, they have the exact same appearance, the difference is their G-Max Moves, Flapple has G-Max Tartness, which reduces evasion, and Appletun has G-Max Sweetness, which heals the status condition of allies, and it will come from their Grass-type moves. For their Hidden Ability, Flapple has Hustle, and Appletun has Thick Fat. Flapple can learn moves like Grav Apple, Sucker Punch, Acrobatics, and Outrage, and Appletun can use Apple Acid, Dragon Pulse, Recover, Leech Seed, and Iron Defense. The downside is they have a 4x weakness to Ice, but Appletun's Thick Fat gives it a 2x weakness to Ice. Ripen is a nice ability, as it doubles the effect of held berries, and it also works for Leftovers.
